2012 QB Class

NFL Draft Analyst
QB | RB | WR | TE | OT | OG | C | DE | DT | LB | DB

In preparation for the 2011 College football season, I will be putting together a small list with some on the top college players and where I think they rank before the season.

So without further ado, here is a quick look at the 2012 QB class.

Andrew Luck, Stanford
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 235
40 time: 4.80
Undoubtedly the top QB in this class. Andrew Luck has all the makings of a franchise QB. He's got the NFL size, arm strength, accuracy, leadership and smarts. He's getting a ton of hype right now and rightfully so. I need to really watch more tape on him before I completely jump on the bandwagon.

Matt Barkley, USC
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 230
40 time: 4.83
Barkley is a kid who has a ton of experience playing against elite competition. He has put up good numbers with a great TD –INT ratio and a solid completion percentage. When I watch Barkley, I see a playmaker at the QB position. I think he can occasionally take some unnecessary risks, but I believe that is because Barkley is trying to win the game for his team; that takes courage and guts. Those are both good leadership qualities. I like Barkley a lot and I am excited to watch him develop more this season.

Landry Jones, Oklahoma
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 215
40 time: 4.81
Jones took some major strides last season and put up some really impressive numbers. However, I believe a lot of his numbers are a product of his system and a great supporting cast. Nevertheless though, Jones has a great amount of talent and leadership. He has a decent arm, good mobility and above average accuracy. He is definitely a risk taker; which can be good and bad. I believe a leader at the QB position needs to have a will and the skill to win, but the smarts to know when to take risks and when not to. If he has another strong season, he could be a first round pick.

Kirk Cousins, Michigan St.
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 202
40 time: 4.85
Cousins had a decent year last season throwing 20 TDs and only 10 INTs. The first thing that I noticed about Cousins is that he has a big arm; he can really throw the football. The next thing I noticed is that he can really move around inside and outside the pocket. I really love his mobility and I know that will make him more attractive to NFL teams. If he can improve on his accuracy and produce another solid season he could be drafted somewhere in the first two rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Nick Foles, Arizona
Ht: 6-5 Wt: 235
40 time: 5.01
Foles is a big QB with a strong arm. I was not too impressed with him last season though. When I watched him I saw a QB who has a good amount of talent but doesn't have the playmaking ability. He has a reputation of checking down way too frequently, and when I was watching him I often saw him throwing some ugly INTs. I believe he needs to really make some good strides this season in order to get himself into first round consideration.

Kellen Moore, Boise St.
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 187
40 time: 4.93
Moore is one of my favorite QBs. He is incredibly talented, but unfortunately he does not have the NFL size for a QB; that would worry me a lot. However, this young man knows how to win; he has done it his entire career.

Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma St.
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 220
40 time: 4.90
Weeden has a ton of talent but he is going to be 29 years old this year. That really hurts his draft stock. If he was younger, he could be considered first round talent; he definitely has a strong enough arm.

Ryan Lindley, San Diego St.
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 210
40 time: 4.90
Lindley definitely has talent but he doesn't have the accuracy or the decision making that he will need to succeed in the NFL. He is a project.

Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 219
40 time: 4.61
After just one year of starting, Tannehill looked pretty good. He had a pretty good completion percentage and threw more TDs than INTs. He is a mid round prospect.

Case Keenum, Houston
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 210
40 time: 4.83
After getting another year of eligibility from the NCAA, Keenum needs to really show everyone what he is made of. It is going to be tough though, ACL injuries are not easy to recover from.

John Brantley, Florida
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 217
40 time: 4.69
I think a lot of people were disappointed with Brantley last season. He needs to really step up this year if he wants to be considered anything more than a late round pick.

Chandler Harnish, North Illinois
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 220
40 time: 4.60
Harnish is a three year starter, who put up some terrific numbers last season. I love Harnish's potential.

G.J. Kinne, Tulsa
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 215
40 time: 4.55
Extremely athletic and a playmaker. Has a decent arm and solid decision making; needs to improve on his accuracy.

Matt Simms, Tennessee
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 217
40 time: 4.83
Showed flashed of talent last season, but is very inconsistent.

Dominique Davis, East Carolina
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 215
40 time: 4.70

B.J. Coleman, UT-Chattanooga
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 215
40 time: 4.72

Austin Davis, Southern Mississippi
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 208
40 time: 4.78

Jacory Harris, Miami
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 200
40 time: 4.75
Another disappointment last season. He needs some major improvement over this next season.

Jordan Jefferson, LSU
Ht: 6-5 Wt: 224
40 time: 4.64

Robert Griffin, Baylor
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 220
40 time: 4.52

Russell Wilson, NC State
Ht: 5-11 Wt: 206
40 time: 4.59
He is transferring from NC State; not sure where to yet, perhaps Wisconsin.

Tyler Hanson, Colorado
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 205
40 time: 4.78

Jamie Hampton, Troy
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 217
40 time: 4.86
