NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR,
Maryland
Ht: 6'2 Wt: 210 40: 4.25
Strengths:
Darrius Heyward-Bey (DHB) is ridiculously fast. It is truly
special to see that size\speed combo. He is very elusive and has
great acceleration. Can make big plays in the open. Has the
ability to make great catches. He uses his hands very well at
times to catch the football, but he is inconsistent. He has
exceptional game speed. DHB is deadly at running
screens.
Weaknesses:
His hands are very inconsistent. He wasn’t as productive as
expected, however he was by far the playmaker on the Maryland
offense. Has been known to kind of slow down towards the end of a
big play, bringing up concerns of endurance. Route running needs
to be improved. He is not a blocker.
Summary:
DHB is going to catch a lot people’s eye because of his 6’2” 210 size
with his 4.25 speed. This is special; however, running fast isn’t
all it takes to be an NFL Wide out. His hands bring up alarming
concerns and his immature route running will take time to
improve. He will need to be developed and that could take up to
2-3 years. Darrius Heyward-Bey has tremendous potential.
