NFL Draft Prospect
Interview: Lamar Myles, LB, Louisville
by Imran Tahir,
3/31/08. Louisville LB Lamar Myles declared for the
2008 NFL Draft after completing his Junior year. Along with his
teammate, Senior LB Malik Jackson, Myles stood out on an otherwise
disappointing Cardinals defense, leading the team with 128 tackles
(including an impressive 22 tackles against Kentucky), while also
forcing and recovering 3 fumbles. Myles is a hard-hitter who
brought a refreshing level of consistency to the field in
2007.

TheFootballExpert.com: Thank you,
Lamar, for allowing me to
interview you on behalf of thefootballexpert.com – how have
preparations for this year’s NFL Draft gone so far?
Lamar
Myles: It’s a long, long process, but still a
great experience. You meet some great people, learn many new
things, and constantly get good feedback.
TheFootballExpert.com:
Do you feel that there is room for you to become an even better
Linebacker? If so, what areas do you feel you need to improve on
the most as you enter the NFL?
Lamar Myles: Yes, I
think I can do even better learning different defensive schemes.
I’ve done a decent job learning new schemes already, and I think I can
do even better in the future since I’ll be able to focus exclusively on
football."
TheFootballExpert.com:
Did any changes on Defense implemented by new head coach Steve
Kragthorpe affect your style of play, or that of the Cardinal
Linebacker unit as a whole?
Lamar Myles: Not really,
since the Defensive
Coordinator was the one we had to adjust to, and I learned just fine
from him.
TheFootballExpert.com: In what
ways do you feel you compare
favorably with other LB’s in this year’s Draft?
Lamar Myles: My speed –
I’m not hesitant out there, I go right after ball carriers. I
also learn quickly.
TheFootballExpert.com:
You’ve been listed at 6’1”…is that your accurate height?
Lamar Myles: Yes
TheFootballExpert.com:
Is there any particular type of Defensive Scheme in the NFL which you
feel would best suit your abilities?
Lamar Myles: I’m
comfortable
working in a 4-3 package as an OLB. I also like the “Tampa-2”
scheme, but really, I’ll work out of any scheme.
TheFootballExpert.com: Scouting
reports indicate that you rank as
one of the stronger Defensive players in this year’s Draft. What
is your max bench press, and how many reps of the standard, 225 lb.
bench press can you do?
Lamar Myles: My max
bench press is 495
lbs., and I can do 34 reps of the 225 lb. bench press.
TheFootballExpert.com:
What is your current weight, and is this the weight which you hope to
check in at when you report for your first mini-camp after the Draft?
Lamar Myles: I’m
currently 230 lbs., and I’m very comfortable at this weight. If
an NFL team tells me to gain or lose weight, I can do that.
TheFootballExpert.com:
What is your current 40-yard dash time, and is this the time which you
had hoped to record for NFL teams?
Lamar Myles: At my Pro
Day, I recorded a
4.61 time, and this was a better time than I expected.
TheFootballExpert.com:
You’re originally from Central Florida (Eagle Lake), correct? Did
you grow up rooting for the Buccaneers?
Lamar Myles: Yes, I
rooted for the Bucs.
TheFootballExpert.com:
How would it feel to be drafted by the Buccaneers?
Lamar Myles: Oh man, it
would be like a
dream come true!
TheFootballExpert.com: Obviously,
it’s still early, but in what
round of this year’s Draft do you hope to be selected in?
Lamar Myles: I’m hoping
for the 4th
Round or better.
TheFootballExpert.com:
Thanks once again, Lamar, for the interview time. Good luck with the
Draft this year.
Lamar Myles: Alright,
thank you.
