NFL Draft - Jeremy Maclin Scouting Report

NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: Jeremy Maclin, WR,
Missouri
Ht: 6'0 Wt: 198 40: 4.43
Strengths:
Maclin is a playmaker when the ball is in his hands. Very quick,
and has elite agility. Top-notch overall speed. He is a
deadly punt-returner. Dangerous threat in open-space and is
extremely elusive. Able to change directions very quickly.
He is tough; he recovered from a major knee injury before his freshman
year. Uses his hands very well to catch the football, does not
use his body to catch. Decent at catching the football in
traffic. Average downfield blocker. Good awareness and he
can adjust to the football quite well. Occasionally he will break
tackles.
Weaknesses:
Not the best route runner. He needs to improve on his route
running skills. He needs to realize coverage and adjust his
routes better. He is often too fast for his own good. He
will try to juke someone and end up running right into them. This
will happen most on kick returns. He could improve on catching
the ball over the middle.
Summary:
Whenever the football is in Jeremy Maclin’s hands, he is a constant
threat. He will make an immediate impact on the return
game. He will need to work on his route running skills, like most
rookie WRs will need to. He will take probably a year to develop
into his full potential. He’s a playmaker, deadly in the open
space, has great agility, and is extremely fast.
