Analyst
Prospect: Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas
St.
Ht: 6'6 Wt: 238 40: 4.97
Strengths:
Josh Freeman has a great frame and size and amazing arm strength.
He can throw an out pattern almost to perfection. He can run very
well for a QB and can pick up yards on the ground. He is very
tough and can break tackles while rushing, which makes him decently
difficult to sack. He can throw pretty well on the run; however,
the throws tend to be a little low. He can escape pass-rushers
well. He has average footwork. Played in a pro style offense in
college.
Weaknesses:
Inaccurate and inconsistent. He has shown flashes of brilliance
and disappointment. He can make an incredible throw and then make
a very poor throw right after. I have seen too much tape of him
where he locks onto one target. He will watch the receiver the
whole play and make the throw. He needs to improve on his
field-vision. He also needs to learn how to read the coverage
better. There are questions about his
leadership.
Summary:
I think that many people put too much emphasis on arm strength as
compared to accuracy. Freeman needs to improve on his accuracy to
become a better quarterback. The arm strength is a major plus;
however accuracy is a very important asset to an NFL QB. He will
need to improve his field-vision as well. Overall, I love
Freeman’s size, toughness, and arm strength, but he will need time to
develop and improve in order to be a true franchise QB and that might
take a season or two.
Draft Projection:
Mid 1st - Early 2nd round
