by Clint
Clearwater
NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon
Ht: 5'11 Wt: 212 40: 4.49
Strengths:
Vicious hitter. Great in run support. Good zone coverage
skills and has fluid hips. Good frame for a safety. He has
a very aggressive playing style and can read plays very well.
Shows great quickness and agility when flowing to a play. Good
ball skills. He has lots of experience. Good work ethic and
a team
leader.
Weaknesses:
Often tackles too high and needs to work on wrapping up
consistently. He will struggle in man to man coverage in the
NFL. He takes poor angles occasionally. He will sometimes
wait for the hit on run support instead of delivering it. Can be
over-aggressive.
Summary:
: Patrick Chung was very productive during his time at
Oregon. He was one the team leaders and he proved it when he
opted to stay for his senior year, rather than declare for the 2008 NFL
Draft. He is an incredible hitter and has great zone coverage
skills. He’s fantastic in run support and has the ability to
intercept the football. He will need improvement of
over-aggression, pursue angles and man to man skills. Despite
this, he has a ton of potential to be a great safety in the
NFL.
Draft Projection:
2nd round.
