NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
Ht: 5'11 Wt: 192 40: 4.39
Strengths:
Explosive. He is a pure playmaker. Every time he has the
football, he is a threat to take it all the way. Constantly
making big plays. Top notch athletic ability with deadly
quickness. He is very tough and has great field vision. He
runs routes well. Has the ability to break tackles. He is
very versatile. He played WR as well as a tweener RB position in
college. Can run the Wildcat offense. Catches the football
with his hands. This shows great technique. Harvin has
amazing game speed.
Weaknesses:
Durability issues. He has had multiple injuries dating back to
06. Ran a little bit slower than expected at the combine.
He did not play in a pro-style offense. He was a tweener, so he
needs to learn to be a true WR. He is not much of a
blocker. He has some minor off-the-field issues dating as far
back to high school where he was suspended in each of his final two
years of football. Failed a drug test at the NFL Combine.
Summary:
Percy Harvin is an intriguing prospect. He certainly has big play
ability and can be a lethal threat after the catch. He does has
legitimate durability concerns, and at his size that is not going to
help his draft stock. He was used often and a lot in college and
some will wonder if he will be able to hold up in the NFL after
that. Despite these concerns he does bring a tremendous upside
with him. He has elite athletic ability mixed with amazing
versatility and could be used right away to make a contribution with
almost any team.
