Strengths: Good NFL size for a QB. He can make every throw; has a quick release and fluid throwing motion. Has the best mechanics of any QB in this draft. Great arm strength and has solid accuracy throwing the football. Athletic for his size; has the ability to really extend plays while keeping his eyes downfield. Knows how to read defenses and know his hot reads. He is a risk taker (I am counting this as a strength, he is not afraid to get the ball into tight windows, which usually will result in big plays. On the downside, he will throw picks). He great leadership qualities, and has very good intangibles. Clean off the field.
Weaknesses: His footwork is my main concern. He is occasionally flat footed which causes a lot of his passes to be high. This is evident when watching his game tape. He was the product of the spread offense. Took very few snaps under center.
Summary: Blaine Gabbert has been in competition with Cam Newton as the best QB in this draft. After Gabbert's Pro Day last Thursday, I believe that he is the consensus number 1 QB. He went 47 for 50 on passes with a reported 2 drops. He looked so good that Mike Mayock linked him to the Pro Days of Matt Ryan and Sam Bradford. Gabbert has everything you want in a QB and I believe he is the most NFL ready QB in this draft. I also believe he is a franchise QB and he should be the first QB taken off the board this April; maybe even number 1 overall to the Panthers.
Draft Projection: Top 5
