Strengths:
Great height and weight. Plays with very good strength. He is a very physical player. Great run blocker. Keeps his feet moving when engaged in run blocking, this shows great technique and footwork. He has very good footwork, very quick and polished. He finishes blocks. He is able to get to the second level and can lock on to linebackers. I love seeing his effort to get downfield and block. Good pass blocker as well. He bends his knees and is able to mirror defenders; however he needs to be more consistent against quick defenders. Has a great initial punch and uses his hands very well. His quick feet enable him to slide very well and he plays with great balance. Extremely good intangibles; he is a very hard worker, tough and good leader. Is able to play a zone-blocking scheme. Played against good competition (including potential first rounders Brandon Graham and Derrick Morgan). An immediate left tackle starter.
Weaknesses:
Lacks good recovery speed. Not too much experience in pulling, but his quick feet and great effort would tell me he would be good adjusting in this area. He often struggles against bull rush. Missed 3 games in 09 due to a thyroid problem.
Summary:
Bryan Bulaga is a great left tackle. He is a tremendous run blocker who consistently gets to the second level and is able to finish blocks. He is also a pretty good pass blocker; he is able to mirror defenders and does a great job of locking on to them. He has very quick footwork and shows textbook technique. He has elite intangibles. He is tough, hard working and is a great leader. He needs to work on his consistency verses quicker defenders. Overall, Bulaga is a very well rounded prospect. He is easily one of the safest picks in the draft and he could find himself in the top 10 come April.
