Scouting Report: Cameron Jordan, DE, California

NFL Draft Analyst

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 285 40: 4.85

Strengths:
Great size. Plays with great strength, able to take on double teams. Uses his hands extremely well. Has a good stance. Able to locate the football quickly. Terrific motor. Excellent against the run; has a great base and displays textbook technique in locating the football and making the tackle. Does a great job of containing the edge and keeping his outside shoulder free on sweep plays. Is able to provide a good pass rush for a bigger DE; uses a wide range of moves to disengage from blockers. Suited to play DE in the 3-4.

Weaknesses:
Needs to rush the passer under control. Needs to be more consistent in staying low when engaged. In pass rushing, his overall quickness could be improved; he will struggle against quicker OT's in the NFL.

Summary:
Cameron Jordan has seen his stock soar this season. He is one of the best 3-4 DE prospects in the country and you can see it on film. He's got the size, strength and talent. My favorite thing I see when I watch Jordan is his relentless motor. He is going full speed every play. Coaches love to see that. He uses his hands violently to disengage from blockers, he is stout against the run and he even can offer a pass rush. Despite all these positives, Jordan does have room for improvement. He needs to learn to stay under control when he is rushing the passer or pursuing. He flies to the football and often is easily juked out. He needs to work on being a more consistent overall football player; which would require him to practice the basics of playing the defensive end position (footwork, staying low, ect..). Overall, Jordan is an exciting prospect that I believe will go early in this year's draft.
