Strengths: Great height and frame. Very strong, physical receiver; is able to break tackles and outplay defenders for the football. He is excellent at beating press coverage. Had great jumping ability, and does a great job of getting the jump ball. Josh Nesbitt (Georgia Tech's QB) used Thomas' jumping ability consistently throughout last season. Very physical at the line of scrimmage. He is very athletic. Does a good job at using his hands to catch the football, however he could be more consistent in this area. Makes good plays on the football, he is able to adjust to the ball. He is willing to go across the middle. He is a pretty good blocker; showed great improvement in this area since last season, but he needs to be more physical. Surprisingly good balance for a receiver of his size. He can do damage after the catch. Has a great stiff arm. Productive player. Stands out in film.
Weaknesses: Although he has decent overall speed, he lacks good agility, I see him having difficulty separating from NFL corners. Does not display a clear second gear in his speed. He did not play in a pro style offense. Has little experience in running routes, so his route running will need improvement. Often during running plays, he won't sell his routes, which shows a lack of effort. He broke his foot on February 16, he will be out 4-6 weeks.
Summary: Demaryius Thomas, nicknamed "Bay-Bay", is one of the most physical receivers in this year's draft. He displays great strength by his ability to break tackles, outplay defenders and beat press coverage at the line. He is very athletic and had a productive career at Georgia Tech. Although there is much to like about Thomas, there are some legitimate concerns about him. His lack of agility is something that will hurt him against NFL corners. His route running ability is another area of concern, mainly due to his inexperience in a pro style offense. He needs to learn a new offense and new routes. Those are two main concerns that I see with Thomas. However, Thomas is an extremely athletic receiver who has a tremendous amount of potential. He will most likely be a 2nd round pick.
Draft Projection: 2nd Round
