Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas
6'1, 200, 4.40
by Kyle Allen, 2/19/08
Strengths:
A polished back that has NFL potential. Runs low, and is good at
slipping tackles and making the first guy miss. Great speed, and
uses it to accelerate through the gaps. Keep his feet moving, and
drives ahead to get extra yards. Tough back who refuses to go
down. Very shifty and has good open field moves. Good vision and very
impressive cutback ability. Would do well in a zone blocking scheme.
Weaknesses:
Mechanics could be a small issue. Switching hands with the ball during
plays is an area for improvement, so fumbles could be a problem.
Somewhat small, but his speed should make up for the lack of size. Only
an adequate receiver. Possible he could only be a product of the talent
that surrounded him.
Projected Round: 2

Charles has also declared
himself eligible for this year's Draft. Charles ranks very high amongst
the Longhorns' all-time rushing leaders, and complements his explosive
open-field rushing ability with terrific receiving skills out of the
backfield. Charles has proven himself to be a feared "home-run threat"
who bailed his Longhorn teammates out of very difficult
predicaments/4th quarter deficits many times this past season. Good
workouts leading up to the Draft would solidify Charles' status as a
1st Round pick; below-average workouts would likely land him a spot in
the upper-half of Round 2.
