Scouting Report: Muhammad Wilkerson, DE/DT, Temple

NFL Draft Analyst

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 308 40: 4.99

Strengths: Has the size to play both three and five techniques. Stout against the run. Will provide a pass rush. Athletic for his size. Experience in the 3-4 defense. Shows very good technique and awareness. Can be very disruptive at times. Stands out during film. Causes plays for the defense. Has a lot of potential.

Weaknesses: Gets too high at times and loses leverage. Needs to work on his bull rush. Could use his hands better. When in pursue, he is often caught off balance which causes him to easily be blocked out of the play. I would like to see more consistency at the point of attack. Needs to get better verses the double team. Level of competition is a factor.

Summary: Wilkerson is a fast riser on the draft boards as of late. He is a big DT who can play both the three and five techniques. He stands out when you watch film of this young man; he is a great playmaker. The main thing that I saw when I watched Wilkerson was that he has a ton of potential. He has a lot of improving to do though. I noticed multiple plays where I was frustrated in his performance, but I also witnessed a good number of plays where he wowed me. I think he needs to get stronger at the point of attack, do better against the double teams (especially if he is going to be a 3-4 DE) and not get so high when engaged with linemen. However, I see a ton of potential with this young man. I would be excited to have him on my team.
