NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: Sean Smith, CB/FS, Utah
Ht: 6'4 Wt: 214 40: 4.50
Strengths:
Elite size. Very physical. Uses his arms and hands really
well. Versatile player. Excellent at press coverage.
Has ability to deliver big hits. He is athletic (former WR) and
has great ball skills. Is able to make great interceptions.
Knows how to get the ball at the highest point. Has good
awareness, and reacts quickly to plays. Good at run
support. Well-rounded
prospect.
Weaknesses: A
bit raw, he will need time to develop and learn how to be a corner in
the NFL. Some see him as a safety\corner tweener. Could
improve the fluid in his hips, especially when he turns and runs.
Not a lot of experience. Does not have elite speed and has been
known to get beat deep. Needs to improve his strength (10 reps on
the bench press at the combine). He often tackles too high.
Cocky.
Summary:
Teams will fall in love with Sean Smith’s size and playing
ability. It is rare to find a corner back with his size, speed
and ability. He was a former WR, and it shows when you watch his
ball skills and his ability to get the football at its highest
point. He is a bit raw at the corner position. He does not
have a lot of experience and he will need time to learn how to play
corner in the NFL. He must improve his strength. His 10
reps on the bench press brings up major concerns, and shows that he
does not like being in the weight room. Sean Smith will be a
solid first day pick, despite these concerns. He has tremendous
upside, and his size\mixed with his playing ability is something that
just doesn’t come around every day.
