TheFootballExpert.com’s Fantasy Football season ends this week with two
senior writers in the finals: Gregory Cox and myself. Paul
Eide, fantasy football director for the site looked to be on autodrive
toward the championship, but with a poor week for Tom Brady, Terrell
Owens, Plaxico Burress, and Wes Welker, I was able to squeak by.
It didn’t help Eide too much that his genius of starting a Cincinnati
defense against a 3rd string quarterback would turn out to be a
disaster. How was Eide expect to know the Bengals would make
Shaun Hill look like a Pro Bowler. So with that, Eide’s season
long domination (11-2) went down the drain and he will have to settle
for the third place game against Bill Chuang, our head columnist.
Bill should be just as upset as Paul for his team’s outcome. He
just so happened to have Brian Westbrook, and just so happened to lose
by 2 points, 87-89. If only Westbrook would have been the
stubborn, cocky player that most NFL players are he would be in the
finals. But, the fantasy gods had to punish him somehow for
stealing both Derek Anderson and Ryan Grant off the waiver wire only to
have them become fantasy studs. Fantasy gurus and nerds may say
otherwise that winning your league’s championship is all about the
waiver wire because no one can predict injuries and which players will
emerge. Unless someone is a huge Oregon State Beaver fan or anti
Charlie Frye fan, who actually thought Derek Anderson would have the
type of season he would be having? \
Even with all the unpredictability of the NFL season, a fantasy
football draft still means something or at least to me. It was
Gregory who actually noticed that all 9 players that I start on my
fantasy roster were drafted by me. And besides kicker, those
players were all picked in rounds 1-9. For those math
illiterates out there, 8 starters were drafted in the first 9
rounds. The one player who doesn’t start, 6th round pick Mark
Clayton - my draft’s bust. But, basic statistics assumes at least
one player is going to bust. So 8 out of 9 is not too bad.
Or in the words of Adam Sandler, “Not too Shabby!”
Peyton Manning, QB, 1st Round (7)
Willis McGahee, RB, 2nd Round (18)
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, 3rd Round (31)
Marshawn Lynch, RB, 4th Round (42)
Braylon Edwards, WR, 5th Round (55)
Fred Taylor, RB, 7th Round (79)
Jason Witten, TE, 8th Round (90)
Dallas, DEF, 9th Round (103)
Kevin Curtis, WR, 10th Round (114)
Owen Daniels, TE, 12th Round (138)
Stephen Gostkowski, K, 14th Round (103)
Luck has much to do with fantasy football success because of the health
of one’s players, but a solid fantasy draft is the first giant step in
getting your team to the playoffs.
Gregory’s top four draft picks are all fantasy starters and so his 6th
pick Jon Kitna.
