NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Tim Shaw, LB, Penn State
by Michael Abromowitz, 3/20/07.  Tim Shaw is a football player.  There is no question about that.  Shaw played out of position  last season as a defensive end because he wanted to help his team.  He was not thinking about his draft status, he was thinking about Penn State and winning.  That is why on Penn State's football site, it says, "Tim Shaw is Penn State."  His hardworking and toughness is exactly what NFL scouts are looking for.  Shaw also has some game too.  He played in 46 games while at Penn State, finished with 176 career tackles, and runs a sub 4.5 40.  There is no doubt Shaw has the physical and mental ability to play in the NFL.

What is your accurate height, weight and forty time?
Tim Shaw:  6’1” and 236.  4.43

What position do you expect to play in the NFL?
Tim Shaw:  Inside or Outside Linebacker

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a football player and what area do you feel you need to improve in?
Tim Shaw:  My greatest strength is getting to the ball and making the tackle.  I can improve on my footwork and techniques of pass drops and directional change.

What NFL player do you do you think you compare favorably to? 
Tim Shaw:  I like to compare myself to guys but I really like the guys who play hard.

Who is the best player you have faced during your career?
Tim Shaw:  Troy Smith and Tony Hunt

What is your greatest football moment to date?
Tim Shaw:  Winning the Big 10 Championship

Did you have a favorite pro team growing up?  Favorite player?
Tim Shaw:  Pro Team was the Steelers and player was Barry Sanders.

When you get your first professional paycheck what is the first thing you will buy?
Tim Shaw:  Set of golf clubs

How have you been preparing and training since the end of your college season?
Tim Shaw:  Trained with Coach Tom Shaw in Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando.  After the Combine, I went back to Penn State to train with my trainer and teammates. 

Obviously it is still early, but do you have any goals in mind when it comes to the NFL Draft?
Tim Shaw:  No just that I’ll be taken where I’m supposed to be so I’ll let it be wherever it is.

What is the one thing you will most miss at college?
Tim Shaw:  The people – Penn State people are awesome.

Where is the best place to get a bite to eat in Happy Valley?
Tim Shaw:  The Deli

What was your favorite college course and why?
Tim Shaw:  A management course that had to do with ethical decision making.  It was really interesting.

What have former college teammates now in the NFL told you about preparing for the league?
Tim Shaw:  That the first year is the longest year of your life but once you get through it you will have some time but just bang out the first year.

Any pregame rituals?  Food?  Music?
Tim Shaw:  No – I change things up.  I always write something on my wrist to remind myself how I need to play or someone who inspires me.

What is something football fans may not know about you?
Tim Shaw:  I love to play golf.

Do you read mock drafts or what draft experts have to say?
Tim Shaw:  No, never.

What do you plan to do once your playing career is over?
Tim Shaw:  Definitely get into business and hopefully own and run a golf course some day.
