What did we
learn about in some fantasy football QB's in week 2? We might have seen
the birth of a useful QB for our fantasy teams in Rex Grossman. We have
definitely seen the emergence of a top fantasy QB in Eli Manning, and
Chad Pennington is back from the fantasy football graveyard.
Rex Grossman looked like a man possessed on Sunday, throwing for 289
yards and 4 TDs. He showed no fear in letting the ball rip through the
air against the Lions. Bernard Berrian is starting to look more and
more like a solid 2nd receiver for the team. Plus Grossman will produce
more TD's with his tight end duo of Desmond Clark and John Gilmore
around the goal line. Grossman will be a solid backup QB for your
fantasy team. He could easily succeed in filling the starting
spot during byes and injuries instead of forcing your team to scramble
the wire for available QB nightmares Kerry Collins and Aaron
Brooks. Pick up Grossman and see if he can continue his strong
play.
Eli Manning has offically step up to the elite status for fantasy QB's.
He joins brother Peyton, Carson Palmer, and Donovon Mcnabb as a must
start QB. Sunday he threw for 371 yards and 3 TD's after being
sacked 8 times! If that doesn't show persistence, then we need to
change the meaning of the word. Amani Toomer has looked great ever
since he drank from the fountain of youth last year. Plaxico Burress is
a becoming more and more a stud number one receiver, and Jeremy Shockey
is still one of the best tight ends in the game. Eli has a lot of
offensive weapons to go to war with every week. Try to trade for Eli in
all of your leagues if possible. You may still be able to scoop him up
for little less then the premium price he will go for in a few weeks.
Chad Pennington has been reborn before our very eyes. Did the doctors
give him a mechanical arm when they performed surgery last year? He
looks like the Chad Pennington from 2002. He has his favorite receiver
back in Laveranues Coles and what looks to be a breakout 2nd receiver
in Jerricho Cotchery. New England's defense is a pretty solid defense
this year, and Pennington's 306 passing yards against them cannot be
ignored in fantasy. Put in a waiver claim for his services if you still
can, he should be ready to put up solid numbers again this year if he
stays healthy.
