NFL Draft
Analyst
Prospect: William Beatty, OT,
Connecticut
Ht:
6’6 Wt: 307 40: 5.06
Strengths:
Great frame and size. Very athletic for his size. Well
rounded offensive tackle. He is a powerful pass blocker.
Good run blocker as well. He’s quick enough to get to the second
level and make a block. Decent balance. Great footwork for
both run and pass blocking. He plays with great hustle and does
not give up on plays. Can pick up blitzing defenders. Shows
good technique when kicking out the defensive end on
sweeps.
Weaknesses:
It will take him at least a year to develop into the tackle he has the
potential to be. Needs to work on setting up a good base
quicker. Inconsistency in the way he uses his hands. He
needs to improve on basic techniques to become more consistent.
He will be bull-rushed by defensive lineman with a quick first
step. Had a broken leg in
2006.
Summary:
William Beatty is a great overall prospect. I really enjoyed
watching this young man play football and I look forward to seeing him
play for many more years. He is a well rounded OT. He is
great in pass protection and he can make great blocks in the running
game as well. He shows great awareness to where the football is
and never gives up on blocks. Inconsistency is his only
downside. He will need to learn and to continue to develop before
he hits his full potential.
